School Uniform

At Brindishe Schools we allow the children the choice in what they wear to school.  Our only requirement is that children should be dressed sensibly for the day, taking into account the activities timetabled for their class as well as the weather.  As we want to nurture children's individuality and respect difference, we allow your children to wear their own choice of clothes. We do have school branded clothing that children can wear if parents/carers prefer - To order please visit the My Clothing website.

Safety and Practicality

Please send your child to school in comfortable, easy to wash clothes and not their best ones!  For young children, it's very important that they wear clothes they can easily manage, especially when visiting the toilet or getting changed for PE. Please also be mindful of the changeability of British weather, ensuring that your child has a warm coat in the winter and is protected from the hot sun in the summer.

For reasons of practicality and health and safety, there are certain types of clothing and footwear that are NOT permitted in school.  These include 'onesies', sleeveless tops, such as summer vests which expose the child's shoulders to the sun, and tops which expose the child's middle.

Footwear should also be appropriate as inappropriate shoes can be dangerous and may spoil enjoyment at playtime.  We don't allow heels, platform soles, backless shoes, strappy sandals or knee-high boots in school.  Children should not wear lace-ups unless they can tie the laces themselves. Slip on, buckle and Velcro fastening footwear is much easier to manage, especially for Nursery and Reception children.

Please label all items of clothing clearly

It's very important that all your child's clothes have their names written in them in some way in an easily accessible place.

Jewellery

For safety reasons, we do not allow jewellery in school, apart from religious items such as a crucifix or a Kara (Sikh bangle), and only close-fitting stud earrings, never hooped earrings. All jewellery apart from stud earrings must be removed by the child themselves if possible for PE and games lessons.

Hair

In some subjects, for instance science, PE, DT and swimming, it is necessary for children with shoulder-length or longer hair to have it tied back. Please ensure that your child comes to school with the right hair accessory to allow them to tie up their hair safely.

Our school champions the right of staff and students to embrace all Afro-hairstyles. We acknowledge that Afro-textured hair is an important part of our Black staff and students’ racial, ethnic, cultural, and religious identities, and requires specific styling for hair health and maintenance. We welcome hair worn in all styles including, but not limited to, afros, locs, twists, braids, cornrows, fades, hair straightened through the application of heat or chemicals, weaves, wigs, headscarves, and wraps.

Clothing for PE

On PE days, your child will be expected to wear named clothing suitable for a range of different sports and/or physical activity. This would include the correct PE shoes, a tracksuit or jogging bottoms/shorts and a t-shirt.

Lost clothing

All named items are returned to the appropriate class if they are left in the playground or around the school building. Unnamed lost property is kept in lost property boxes and displayed at the front of the school frequently.  Any items left at the end of term will be given to charity or recycled.

School-branded clothing, book bags and gym bags

All Reception children will be provided with a Brindishe book bag when they start, kindly funded by the parent association. In addition, optional school-branded clothing and gym bags for all year groups are available for purchase online.
